If you already have Home & Office, you can't update to Starter Edition : Quicken Starter Edition 2011 - [Old Version]

After years of using Quicken Home and Office, and since I don't use the majority of the program, I decided to update the program to the 2011 edition. All I wanted was the 2011 Starter Edition and after many frustrating hours on the phone with Intuit, discovered that you cannot go from the Home & Office version to Stater Edition. No where on Quicken's web site does it mention that fact. Raheed, customer service rep from Intuit, told me that "there was no where on the website that it said it would work either!" It took me three weeks to get my money back, and only after I contacted Amazon. Once again they stand behind the products they sell, even if the company doesn't.

While I have always been a fan of Quicken, please be advised that they explicitly disallow "upgrades" from earlier versions of Quicken Deluxe to new versions of Quicken Basic. (While this practice may be common in the software industry, it is completely unnecessary.) This is not obvious until install time. While I am certain there are workarounds for this, I don't wish to take the time to discover them.

Quicken Non-Starter : Quicken 2009 Starter Edition [OLD VERSION] [Download]

This product is beyond useless for me. Despite Amazon's claims in the product description that Quicken Starter Edition 2009 tracks 401k accounts and loans, IT DOES NOT.

Quicken Starter Edition 2009 can ONLY track checking/savings/credit card/cash accounts. It cannot track loans of any kind (personal, home, vehicle) or any type of retirement account. I thought about entering my home loan as a credit card account and manually adjusting it every month, but I'd rather have a software program that works properly. Apparently Quicken Deluxe can handle loan and retirement accounts, and I would have ordered it from the start if I had realized Amazon had a completely inaccurate description for the Starter edition. However, I think now I'm going back to my tried and true Microsoft Money just because of this headache (I also have a problem with Quicken "talking" with my credit union, and never had that issue with MS Money).

Only beneficial for basic checking catalogue functions : Quicken Starter Edition 2010 [OLD VERSION]

Be faithful with this. If you are running an earlier version of Quicken deluxe you cannot downgrade to the 2010 Quicken Starter Edition. Your backup is not able to be imported. I had to buy the Unlock from reckon to be able to use my old data.
